The non-profit Don Bosco Youth Leadership Centre began in September 1997 to address the growing needs of young people and families in RDP. “No where to go and nothing to do”, Theo Vecera, the founder of the DBYLC, worked with various levels of government and at the time the Salesian parish Maria Ausiliatrice Parish to keep youth off the streets in a safe, supervised and nurturing environment. The goal was to offer prevention programming, educational services and leadership opportunities for the young people to develop, share with the community and apply in their personal and professional growth. We now welcome over 1000 youth every year and are supported by over 60 volunteers (many being campers and teenagers in our programming!).

A True Beacon Of Love In The Community
Saint Don Bosco
``Run, jump, shout, but do not sin.``
a positive way
Named after Saint John Bosco, a universally recognized educator and evangelizer of the young, the DBYLC strives to follow in his footsteps. The mission of the DBYLC is to foster the development of good kids and positive youth leaders through active presence. This mission is carried out through a variety of activities that have as their goal; education, prevention, community outreach, family connection, and leadership training.
We use his prevention method as our animation guide in letting young people express themselves in a positive way that promotes healthy living and accountability to the community.
All our programs and services are supported by volunteers, stagiers, contracted staff and led by the team of Theo Vecera, Anna Tafuto, Robert Leclerc and Fr. Richard Authier SDB.
A community that comes together
makes all of this possible
Contracted staffs are young adults who receive 500$ for 20 sessions to lead a particular program (example: Friday Night Ball Hockey). This money comes from our annual Fundraisers organized by the young people of the YLC and small donations and grants. These fluctuate every year and are not guaranteed.
Many of our programs have during the year, special events, outings, guest speakers and a social justice project included. The goal is for the youth and teens to have a wonderful YLC experience filled with “SafeFun” activities, everlasting memories, new friendships, mentorship and the opportunity to grow as a leader! Join us anytime as a participant, leader and as a person of change (sponsorship assistance, board member, etc…).
